Altis Cloud v21 is here, and it’s jam-packed with improvements to further enhance your development environment. From new backup management options to expanded regional hosting, this release prioritises the flexibility, security, and compliance you really need.
Three reasons to get excited about Altis Cloud v21
1. Backup shipping add-on
Altis Cloud now offers Backup Shipping, an add-on service designed for customers needing off-site backup storage for compliance and disaster recovery. Adhering to the industry-standard 3-2-1 rule, this feature enables users to retain three copies of data across two storage types, with one copy stored off-site.
Users can specify an external Amazon S3 bucket where Altis will securely transfer daily backups in a standard format (zipped files for uploaded content and .sql files for databases). This empowers customers to restore their sites independently if necessary, adding an extra layer of security for business-critical data.
2. Expanded regional hosting in London (eu-west-2)
You asked, and we listened! In response to customer demand, particularly from organisations with compliance requirements for data sovereignty, we’ve introduced a new hosting region in London (eu-west-2).
Clients can now host in the UK, meeting regulatory needs and delivering faster content to users in the region. This new option follows the rigorous standards set across all Altis hosting regions to guarantee optimal performance and uptime. You can find out more about our regions right here.
3. MySQL 5.7 removal and full transition to MySQL 8.0
With MySQL 5.7 reaching its end-of-life, Altis Cloud has now fully transitioned to MySQL 8.0, ensuring that your projects leverage the latest performance improvements and security patches.
MySQL 8.0 introduces enhanced reliability, faster query performance, and modern security features, supporting high-traffic sites with the resilience and efficiency enterprises require.
As we announced back in the Altis v19 release, alongside the Cloud support for MySQL 8.0, we offer full support in Altis Local Server, giving you the ability to develop, test, and verify your database upgrade locally with confidence. For more information about MySQL 8.0 in Local Server, consult the documentation.
