Altis Cloud now supports server-side Node.js rendering, leveling up your capability to deliver headless solutions at scale. This new feature marks an important step in our commitment to providing cutting-edge technology and support for headless infrastructure.
As 2024 draws to a close, we’ve got one final gift to take us into the holiday season: announcing Node.js support for Altis Cloud! We’ve been quietly working away on this with our launch customers over the past year, and it’s a game-changer for headless solutions at scale. This isn’t just another feature; it’s the next chapter in redefining how enterprises build, innovate, and deliver on the web.
Evolving web development with Altis Cloud Node.js
Headless sites are a trend that seem to be sticking around for the long term, and we’re seeing more and more requests for Node.js rendering support. In particular, Node.js sites allow developers to have separate teams working on the frontend (Node) and the backend (WP), which is a common feature in enterprises with larger teams.
The separation of the frontend and backend development processes not only optimizes project workflows but also enables increased flexibility in content delivery and user experience design. With the introduction of Altis Cloud Node.js, we’re bridging the gap between the robustness of WordPress backend management and the agility of Node.js frontend development.
Even better, one of our launch customers is combining Node.js with WooCommerce for a premium headless ecommerce experience, delivering an intuitive shopping experience for customers. This combination of headless flexibility with the power of open source ecommerce provides developers with a huge number of options for how to provide the best experience.
How it works
We integrate Node.js directly into your existing Altis Cloud infrastructure as part of your dedicated servers.
Alongside your regular application containers (running WordPress), we run a second set of containers just for Node.js. These benefit from the same autoscaling architecture as your application servers, as well as the same Altis Content Delivery Network (CDN) and Web Application Firewall (WAF) you know and love.
Just like your application cluster, each environment gets its own Node.js cluster. This allows you to test development and staging environments just like your production environment, without needing complex application-level logic within your Node.js application to switch between different backends.
Frameworks & future capabilities
Our primary focus is on supporting Next.js, aiming to make it a first-class citizen on the Altis platform. This decision is driven by Next.js’s popularity and its alignment with our vision for efficient, scalable web solutions. As we evolve, we’re open to integrating additional frameworks that complement our technology stack and meet our customers’ needs.
We’re working on supporting all of the tooling you love with Node.js. We already support our integrated continuous deployment tools and deep visibility with logging tools, and we’re working towards adding support for secrets, X-Ray, and additional developer frameworks in the future.
Why Altis Cloud Node.js?
The introduction of server-side Node.js rendering on Altis Cloud is a great example of our commitment to innovation, efficiency, and the future of web development. By offering a platform that supports the seamless integration of WordPress and Node.js, we’re not just responding to the market’s demands—we’re anticipating the future needs of developers and businesses alike.
As we continue to expand our capabilities and embrace new technologies into 2025, Altis Cloud remains dedicated to providing a secure, scalable, and developer-friendly platform. Whether you’re building a complex enterprise solution or a dynamic single-page application, Altis Cloud is designed to elevate your headless web projects to new heights.
